The Michigan room interprets a library dating around 1920. Then, as now, having a special room dedicated to books was a mark of wealth. The room is decorated in the then-latest Colonial Revival style, featuring white woodwork with contrasting red bookcases and alcoves. The upholstery and curtains complement the look. In keeping with early 20th-century ideals, the room is comfortably decorated with luxurious upholstery such as the sofa, easy chair, drapes and oriental carpet. Note how decorative objects like the blue and white tin-glazed earthenware in the alcoves and multicolored pearl-ware plates on the top shelves of each bookcase are carefully chosen for their color appeal and are artfully placed about the room. |
