An array of beautiful photographs showcase early American fashions that were featured in the recent DAR Museum exhibit titled “An Agreeable Tyrant: Fashion After the Revolution.”

NSDAR General Fund

Contributions account for a significant percentage of the NSDAR operating budget, so giving to the General Fund regularly makes an enormous difference in our work. Collectively your donations help to support one of the world’s largest buildings of its kind owned and maintained exclusively by women—by you and so many other dedicated Daughters. It belongs to each and every one of us.  It is our heritage—and all of this is made possible through member support. The NSDAR General Fund truly is our “area of greatest need.”

President General’s Message to Daughters: Summer 2017

Dear Member,

I am pleased to present to you the DAR 2018 Wall Calendar. This lovely edition showcases early American fashions that were featured recently in one of our museum exhibits.

I hope you will use this calendar with great satisfaction, knowing that you help us protect and preserve early American treasures like those depicted in these pages — intriguing reminders of the past that delight and inspire visitors from across our nation and around the world!

The costumes showcased in this calendar were featured in an exhibit titled “An Agreeable Tyrant”: Fashion After the Revolution, an amazing exhibition featuring 50 mannequins in 12 period rooms sporting men’s and women’s clothing from 1780–1825.

“An Agreeable Tyrant” reflected the creative spirit of Early America, illustrating how our first settlers forged a new identity in various ways, including fashion.

The DAR Museum, with its remarkable patriotic exhibits, is just one of many programs and services made possible through your support of the NSDAR General Fund. Please consider making a gift today to the General Fund to help assure that we can continue honoring and preserving the American story for present and future generations — just click the “GIVE NOW” button at the top of this page, or make your donation a monthly gift by becoming a Sustaining Supporter.

Your generous support enables our historic Headquarters complex to remain open to the public six days a week, 51 weeks a year to inspire our visitors with the American Story. This includes our very own DAR Museum, which shares the importance of the pre-industrial American experience with school groups, families, children and present and future DAR members.

And your gifts to the NSADAR General Fund do so much more…

  • Your help keeps the lights on and the buildings comfortably heated and air-conditioned for the tens of thousands of members, guests and visitors who come here each year.
  • Your gifts help the staff in numerous departments such as RG Data, Organizing and the DAR Library to assist members and visitors alike with questions and requests, both in person and online.
  • Your support helps keep our state-of-the-art climate control system in peak condition 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. This is very important to protect our historic and cultural artifacts valued at more than $20 million.
  • Your help provides the power for computers, printers, scanners and copiers used by our genealogists to conduct their research, and the review and processing of more than 2,000 applications per month.
  • Your help keeps our buildings safe through monitoring the safety and security of our property around the clock.

In short, you are carrying on the mission our founders established so long ago — to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism.

I am honored to have the opportunity to work with you to promote NSDAR’s important work as we continue Moving Forward in Service to America.

Sincerely,

Ann Turner Dillon
President General
