The Delaware Period Room Virtual Tour is a gift of the Delaware State Society DAR.

The Delaware room represents a gentleman’s study of the 1780s. In the 18th century the word “study” referred to the room, while “library” referred to a collection of books. Furnishings like the Pembroke or breakfast table and upholstered armchair could be easily moved to suit a need, such as in front of the fireplace for extra warmth or by a window for light. The fitted fashionable green check slipcovers or “case covers” were placed over upholstered chairs to protect the expensive upholstery in this instance red wool.
