SPEAKER: Katie Cannon, Assistant Curator of Education, DAR Museum
TEEN/ADULT: So you’ve heard the Sleeping Beauty legend, and you’ve taken a shuttle bus. But do you know how a spinning wheel really works? Or that the term “shuttle” comes from a weaving tool? This active demonstration will give you first-hand knowledge of how to go from raw fibers to finished fabric. Then, find out how people made fabric in the early years of our country, and how the nostalgia over “homespun” cloth does not tell the whole story.
Katie Cannon has been spinning and weaving for more than 20 years. She is a professional sheep shearer (and sometimes does camels). Katie has an MA in Museum Studies and is the Assistant Curator of Education at the DAR Museum.
This event is free, but preregistration is encouraged.
