Morgan County
4 Duncan Place
Jacksonville, IL 62650

Historical Significance:

Served as the Illinois Governor's Mansion during Joseph Duncan's term 1834-1838. Ellen Hardin Walworth, NSDAR founder, spent a great deal of time in the Mansion with the Duncan children. Abraham Lincoln served his first term, as State Representative, under his friend Gov. Duncan. In 1920, our chapter obtained ownership on the of the Mansion and site.

Acknowledgements: We are approaching the final phases of a $500,000 restoration project. The Mansion has become the focal point of Jacksonville's National Historic District.
