Historical Significance

Harmony Hall was built circa 1769 by Enoch Mugruder and was formally patented as Battersea in 1662 by Humphrey Haggett. On the same property Want Water house, now ruins, was constructed in 1708. It is said to be the oldest known house in the Washington DC area with architectural plans. The Want Water canal was hand dug in 1749 to provide access to the warehouse and inspection station.
