Historical Significance:

The Backus house was built in 1750 by Nathaniel Backus, descendant of one of Norwich's founding families. It was the first house built on lower Broadway, two miles from Norwichtown Green, at the Landing, also known as Chelsea. The house was moved by the members of the Faith Trumbull Chapter, NSDAR in 1952 when it was learned the house was slated to be destroyed.
