Historical Significance:
Rosalie was built between 1820 and 1823 for Peter and Eliza Little. The magnificent mansion, an outstanding example of ante-bellum architecture, was purchased in 1857 by Andrew and Eliza Wilson who acquired the valuable set of Belter furniture for the double parlors. In 1863 Rosalie became headquarters to the Union Army under General Walter Gresham who protected the house and its contents, including furniture, toys, books, scrapbooks, and clothing.
Returned to the Wilson's after several years of Federal occupancy, Rosalie remained in the Wilson family until 1938 when it was purchased by the Mississippi State Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Today Rosalie and its gardens are operated and maintained by the DAR, who proudly share the architecture, furnishings, flora, and history with visitors from the area and around the world." Rosalie was built between 1820-1823 for Peter and Eliza Little. The magnificent 200-year-old mansion, an outstanding example of Federal-era architecture, is home to a complete 21 piece Belter furniture set in the double parlors, purchased by the Andrew Wilson family when they acquired the house in1857. Because of its strategic location on the Mississippi River, Rosalie was used as headquarters for the Union Army during the occupation of Natchez during the Civil War. In 1938 the Mississippi State Society purchased Rosalie and all of its contents, including furniture, toys, books, paintings, and clothing from Wilson family descendants. Today MSSDAR proudly interprets Rosalie's history and significance for visitors from this country and around the world.
