American Spirit Wins 6 APEX Awards
American Spirit has once again established itself as a superior magazine by winning 6 APEX 2003 Awards. The Awards for Publication Excellence (APEX) recognize excellence in publications work by professional communicators. American Spirit won the top honor Grand Award in the Magazine and Journals category. In addition, 5 Awards of Excellence were presented to the bimonthly magazine of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
We are delighted to be honored by the professional community with these prestigious awards, says DAR President General Linda Tinker Watkins. We hope that our members recognize these awards significance and commit themselves to supporting this outstanding publication.
With close to 5,000 entries, the APEX competition was exceptionally intense this year. American Spirit competed with over 700 entries in the Magazine and Journals category and was one of only three magazines to receive a Grand Award honoring outstanding work in that category. The APEX Awards of Excellence recognize exceptional entries in each of the sub-categories of the competition. American Spirit was honored with Awards of Excellence for Design and Layout September/October 2002; Cover November/December 2002; Photographs March/April 2003; Feature Writing November/December 2002; and Health/Medical Writing March/April 2003.
The 2003 APEX panel of judges described the American Spirit as, "Wonderful, richly-textured, lively spreads, spectacular photography, crisp readable typography, interesting headline schedules, and crisp inviting, interesting copy. The judges, consisting of an editor, publisher, and former journalism professor, concluded that the American Spirit doesn't get any better."
