DAR Headquarters Featured in National Magazine

WASHINGTON, DC – The elegance of the Daughters of the American Revolution Headquarters Building was featured in a two-page spread in the Winter 2006 issue of In Style Weddings. Beautiful photographs by Washington, D.C. photographer Rodney Bailey were used in the national magazine to show a lavish wedding recently held at DAR Memorial Continental Hall (pages 278-279).

The featured wedding was held in the DAR O’Byrne Gallery and Portico, a popular D.C. location to hold wedding ceremonies and receptions. The O’Byrne Gallery features barreled ceilings, a herringbone hardwood floor, recessed lighting and grand French doors, while the adjacent Portico has spectacular columns that support the partially covered outdoor terrace and offers a stunning view of the Washington Monument.

Numerous weddings are held in DAR Memorial Continental Hall every year, in large part due to the elegant space combined with the reasonable price and the venue’s inherent Washington, D.C. ambiance. For the past four years, Washingtonian magazine has pinpointed DAR as one of Washington, D.C.’s best reception sites in their annual wedding guide.

While DAR Memorial Continental Hall has only actively been renting out its spaces for a little over five years, the popularity of the building as a private event venue has skyrocketed in recent years. In addition to weddings, the versatile spaces are used for dinners, meetings, press conferences, bar/bat mitzvahs, corporate functions, filming and a variety of other events. The majority of the private events held at the headquarters take place in DAR Memorial Continental Hall, while the adjoining building, the well-known concert venue DAR Constitution Hall, hosts larger scale performances, speakers and awards ceremonies.

Additionally, the DAR headquarters is open to the public six days a week. The DAR headquarters complex occupies an entire city block near the White House and includes three adjoining buildings, two of which are Registered National Historic Landmarks (DAR Memorial Continental Hall and DAR Constitution Hall). Among the public attractions in the DAR complex are the DAR Museum’s 31 Period Rooms as well as permanent and changing exhibitions showcasing American furnishings and decorative arts prior to 1830; the DAR Library, one of the largest genealogical research centers in the United States; and the DAR Americana Collection of unique and historic early-American documents and books.
