Daughters of the American Revolution Convene in Washington, D.C.
Thousands of Delegates Attend 113th Continental Congress

(WASHINGTON, D.C.)  The nation's capital welcomed more than 3,000 members of one of its foremost service organizations this week, with the arrival of the Daughters of the American Revolution for their 113th annual Continental Congress.  Among those honored by the DAR during the five-day Congress were documentary film producer Ric Burns and award-winning author and filmmaker Randall Wallace; Major Richard Winters, the WWII hero featured in HBO’s Band of Brothers; recording artist Pat Boone; Lieutenant Shane Osborne, the captured pilot downed over China; and United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Eduardo Aguirre, Jr. with the Americanism Medal. 

"Our annual Continental Congress provides the opportunity for Daughters from around the world to report their progress, express their patriotism, and rejuvenate themselves for the important service work that awaits in their local communities," said Linda Tinker Watkins, President General. " As a Society, we've been re-energized by the resurgence in American patriotism, and this Congress proved there's never been a more exciting time to be a member of our dynamic organization."

At the close of the Congress, Presley Merritt Wagoner of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, was elected to a three-year term as President General of the National Society.

The National Society of the DAR was founded in 1890 to promote patriotism, preserve American history, and support better education for our nation's children. Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the American Revolution.
