The California Room is modeled after the oldest adobe house in Monterey. Shown here is the parlor in the house dating to the 1860s; the early years of California statehood. Adobe was a common building material in the state used for the walls and exposed ceiling beams. The influence of both the early Spanish settlers and the Far East can be seen in many of the objects on view.
The California Period Room Virtual Tour is a gift of the California State Society DAR.
