The North Carolina room represents an 1820s dining room. Most wealthy American households had dining rooms, which served as a place for ceremony, and for catching up on current events, the latest fashion and gossip. The dining table is set for the dessert course, which is being served from a three-tiered mahogany dumb waiter. The room is fashionably decorated in the neoclassical style, represented by the boldly carved and veneered furniture like the large mahogany sideboard in the corner. The hand-printed reproduction wallpaper features a repeating pattern of flowers and leaves well suited to a dining room.
