Help Our Museum Secure A Rare Piece of History!
We have set a #GivingTuesday goal of $35,000–a portion of which will be used to purchase the rare American Sampler, shown below. This needlework piece was created by Maria Antonia Hill and is dated 1793—a time when very few European settlements existed in Florida. Maria’s family, originally from North Carolina, moved on to South Carolina and eventually settled in St. Augustine, Florida in 1785 or 1786.
Today, you have an incredible opportunity to help the DAR Museum secure this extremely rare 18th-century sampler created by a school girl in Florida in 1793. There are only two documented samplers from before 1850 from Florida known to be in existence today and we need your help to bring the elder of these two pieces to the DAR Museum.
A portion of the funds raised from our #GivingTuesday campaign will be used to acquire the sampler, while the remainder will be used to support the Museum Keeper Fund and enable us to bring other significantly historic pieces to our fully accredited Museum.
NSDAR Recognition: Museum Keeper Pin
The Museum Keeper Fund was originally established to support the Museum’s purchase of the rare Simon Willard Lighthouse Clock. This fund continues to support the DAR Museum’s acquisition of unique and important items and objects that help us tell the American story. Your #GivingTuesday contribution of $500* or more will qualify you to purchase the official Museum Keepers Pin, modeled after the finial in the Lighthouse Clock.
*Donations met in a single contribution, OR are met through continuous contributions via the Sustaining Supporter monthly giving program.
