Inspiration From Within . . .
The design of this card featured in the Fall Mailing in support of the President General’s Project was inspired by a section of a quilt housed right here in the DAR Museum. Known as a “Baltimore Album,” this beautiful quilt is 86 inches wide by 84 inches long and features 25 distinctly different panels.
“Baltimore Album Quilts” were a form emerging in that city in the mid-1840s and popular for just a decade. They were composed of appliqué blocks of extraordinary complexity and beauty, in a variety of styles that could be purchased as kits like the squares here, or made at home. Like album quilts of different styles popular throughout America, the Baltimore versions usually were made as a group project with signatures of friends and family. The DAR Museum owns eight of these types of quilts, including the one whose block is pictured here. Sadly, this one has no names, and its history has been lost. Its only clue is the inscription “Trophy of Love 1846” inked on the back.
Contributions to the President General’s Project provide for the financial well-being of NSDAR as well as the communities in which we live. Those dedicated Daughters whose generous donations make it possible to accomplish these goals are eligible for recognition at various levels.
One-time contributions to the President General’s Project totaling:
- $100* or more qualifies the donor to purchase the President General’s Project Pin.
- $300 or more qualifies the donor to have an inscription featured on the Moving Forward in Service to America Donor Wall.
- $1,250 or more qualifies the donor to receive the President General’s Project Benefactor Pin as a gift. As a Benefactor you not only have the opportunity to have a 4-line inscription on the Moving Forward in Service to America Donor Wall, you will also be recognized from the Platform at Continental Congress.
* The $100 minimum donation for the President General’s Project Pin may be met in a single contribution OR through continuous contributions via the Sustaining Supporter monthly giving program.
