Happening:
Bring your friends and family to view the holiday decorations at DAR Headquarters!

 

  • Visit the National Christmas Tree across the street at the Ellipse then get out of the cold and join us for refreshments, cookies and a taste of history
  • Santa is taking time out of his busy schedule to attend the Open House and take photos with visitors!
  • View a slideshow of more than 20 years of DAR Open House festivities
  • Experience the elegance and Christmas splendor of Memorial Continental Hall, a Registered Historic Landmark
  • Take a tour of our 31 period rooms depicting scenes of early American life including rooms decorated with historic holiday traditions of the past
  • Explore the DAR Museum special exhibit Pleasing Truths: Power and Portraits in the American Home
  • View a historic concert gown worn by renowned singer Marian Anderson on display in the DAR Museum Study Gallery, on loan from the Marian Anderson Museum
  • Explore the American Revolution Experience Traveling Exhibit, a collaboration with American Battlefield Trust, to learn more about the individuals of the Revolutionary War Era.
  • Enjoy holiday music, including caroling from women's vocal ensemble, Seraphim, the flute trio, Wind Song, and soprano Jillian Pirtle, CEO of the National Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society.
  • Get a head start on Christmas shopping at the Museum Shop and DAR Store
  • In the spirit of the giving season, visitors are encouraged to bring new and lightly used children's books to donate to our DAR Open House book drive for Books 4 Kids, a pediatric literacy program for military families at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and the surrounding military medical clinics.
