Albuquerque America 250! Community Event
The event will be free and open to the public. The panel will discuss the ideals, sacrifices, and leadership that shaped our nation’s founding. Speakers will explore the historical context, civic values, and enduring relevance of the Declaration of Independence. The event will also highlight New Mexico’s role in American Independence through the screening of a short documentary film about the Spanish Patriots from New Mexico.
In conjunction with the public discussion, the exhibit will include two educational banners (33.5 x 80) illustrating the key political, social, and cultural events leading up to July 4, 1776 and a listing of New Mexico's Spanish American Patriot ancestors who were instrumental in supporting efforts of the colonists in securing liberty, freedom, and independence through military, monetary, diplomatic and tactical support. The curated exhibit focuses on a number of themes: the Founders, Thomas Paine and Common Sense, International Military Leaders and Bernardo de Galvez, the Declaration of Independence, Native American and African American Patriots, Women's role in the American Revolution including serving as Spies. The extensive exhibit will be displayed at four Albuquerque sites from May to September 2026 and will serve as a learning resource and conversation starter for attendees of all ages.
