Description
In celebration of America 250!, The Good-Land Chapter, NSDAR, is partnering with the Goodland Cemetery Board and community organizations to restore and rededicate the Unknown Veterans Memorial and Flower Garden at Goodland Cemetery in Goodland, Kansas. This meaningful project honors the memory of unknown veterans buried in the cemetery while reflecting on America’s past and inspiring a shared commitment to the future.

Originally established in 1924 by the Woman’s Relief Corps, the memorial had fallen into disrepair. Through support from the Sherman County Community Foundation and the DAR America 250! Community Grant Fund, the chapter is restoring this historic space. The original brass plaque purchased by the Woman’s Relief Corps was recently recovered after being discovered at a local landfill. To ensure a lasting tribute, the damaged plaque will be replaced with a new memorial mounted on a permanent granite stone. A surrounding garden wall and floral tribute will create a place of remembrance honoring those who gave their lives in service to the nation.

A special Memorial Day 2026 rededication ceremony will feature an honor guard from regional SAR groups, remarks from local officials, and patriotic music performed by local youth. Following the service, the public is invited to gather for a light meal as the community comes together in remembrance, reflection, and celebration of the sacrifices made to secure America’s independence and democratic ideals.

This permanent memorial will serve as a visible reminder of local history and The Good-Land Chapter’s enduring commitment to the principles of God, Home, and Country.

This event is free and open to the public.
