Description
The Major William Chronicle Chapter, NSDAR (Belmont, North Carolina) will host a public mural unveiling ceremony on Thursday, June 4 at 12:15 p.m. in downtown Belmont.

This special America 250! mural, commissioned by the chapter and created by renowned local artist Boyce McKinney, honors Belmont’s deep Revolutionary War roots. The artwork features Major William Chronicle—namesake of the chapter—and the South Fork Boys, a local militia who fought in the Battle of Kings Mountain. Major Chronicle, who gave his life at just 25 years old, is remembered as the first officer killed in that pivotal battle.

The ceremony will include participation from local and state dignitaries, as well as representatives from DAR and SAR. Kingsbury’s Artillery will be in attendance with period artillery equipment (no live firing due to fire restrictions), adding a visual connection to the Revolutionary era.

Attendees will also be able to engage further with the project through a QR code displayed on the mural, linking to additional information about the American Revolution, the individuals depicted, the Major William Chronicle Chapter, and the sponsors who made the project possible.

This event celebrates local history, honors the legacy of Patriot service, and highlights the ongoing commitment of the Daughters of the American Revolution to historic preservation, education, and patriotism as part of the America250 commemoration.

This event is free and open to the public.
