Description
The Wyoming State Society DAR invites the public to an all-day America 250! celebration at the Wyoming State Capitol featuring a parade, live music, a National Guard flyover, performances by the 67th Army Band, an engaging speaker series, and a spectacular fireworks finale.

As part of the speaker series, Donna Weaver, Past Vice President General and Honorary State Regent, will share the remarkable story of Wyoming's George Washington Elm. The program highlights a living piece of DAR history that began in 1932, when DAR member Alice Dorsey gifted saplings descended from George Washington's famed elm tree to each of the nation's 48 states. Wyoming's tree continues to stand as a symbol of patriotism, preservation, and civic pride.

Local artist Paula Ingram Wright illustrated Long Live Wyoming's George Washington Elm, a children's book that tells the story of this treasured tree. Copies of the book will be distributed during the July 4 celebration and, with the permission of the Wyoming Superintendent of Public Instruction, to Wyoming libraries and elementary schools across the state. Attendees will also receive commemorative cards featuring the book's logo and a QR code linking to the George Washington Elm story on the Wyoming State DAR website.

Visitors can locate the tree by an 11-foot feather flag and view a nine-foot banner showcasing the 1932 photograph of DAR presenting the tree to the Governor of Wyoming, the project's QR code, and an image of the commemorative silk scarf created as the 2016–2018 Wyoming State Regent's project to mark, preserve, and propagate the elm. In a fitting tribute to future generations, the scarf will be placed in a time capsule at the Wyoming State Capitol to be opened during Wyoming's bicentennial celebration in 2090.

This event is free and open to the public. The full story of the Washington Elm can be accessed here: https://wydar.org/washington-elm/
