Description
In celebration of America 250!, the Chickasawhay Chapter, NSDAR will sponsor a patriotic community program on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Rhinehart Square in downtown Waynesboro, Mississippi. This public event will commemorate the nation’s Semiquincentennial and honor the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence through civic engagement, historical reflection, and patriotic celebration.

The program will feature participation from city and county officials, Miss Hospitality Lily Cooley, and the Greater Girl Scouts of Mississippi. Highlights will include the presentation of the History Teacher of the Year Award and the Community Service Award, the planting of a Liberty Tree accompanied by an America 250! commemorative plaque, patriotic music, and a reading of the Declaration of Independence by a volunteer portraying Thomas Jefferson.

Designed to celebrate America’s founding and inspire appreciation for the nation’s history, the event will bring together community members of all ages to reflect on the ideals of liberty and independence. The public is invited to attend this free community celebration.
