Communications Assistant (PR office/hybrid schedule)
The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is seeking a creative, adaptable, and collaborative communications professional to join our staff.
Our Communications Assistant will be responsible for supporting our Public Relations and Communications team and will focus on executing the daily communications that are circulated on behalf of the Society.
The Public Relations and Communications Department works closely with executive leadership and other departments to collaborate and oversee the organization’s communications, special projects, websites, media relations, annual convention, and special events.
The main focus of this position will be to provide support in the coordinating and editing of Today’s DAR Blog posts, create and administer content for DAR’s social media across multiple platforms, and research analytics to identify room for improvement.
Though an entry-level position, this would be an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience on a communications team within a non-profit environment.
Essential Functions:
- Maintains the Today’s DAR Blog and coordinates timelines and copy edits.
- Creates and administers content for DAR social media across a variety of platforms. This will include researching new trends and features within each platform and how they can further the DAR message.
- Researches analytics from the website, social media, blogs and emails to identify trends and where the DAR can improve distribution and reach.
- Works with national leadership and internal departments to keep the DAR websites up to date.
- Assists in the coordination, creation, and edits for blast email communications to our membership.
- Is the front line for responding to incoming inquiries and assists with questions about the DAR and its resources.
- Will assist with the creation of publicity materials, video, photography, and DAR special events.
Reports To: Assistant Director of Communications
Work Schedule: This is a full-time position, with limited telework options available.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 -3 years of experience working in a communications, publications, or media/public relations environment with a concentration or involvement in the development and implementation of content on websites.
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in a communications focused field of study.
- Effective written and oral communication skills, including interpersonal skills and the ability to convey information to a wide range of individuals.
- Strong project management and organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to establish and communicate priorities. Quickly able to shift focus if needed.
- Displays a strong attention to detail in all levels of work.
- Excellent computer skills in Word, Excel, and other web applications. Knowledge of (or the ability to quickly learn) social media platforms, Drupal or web content management systems, HTML and other graphic applications like Adobe Photoshop.
- Takes initiative in their tasks and projects and finds ways to be more efficient in processes.
Perks and Pay:
- Hiring annual salary range is between $52,000 to $58,000, with the final determination based upon the candidate's overall experience.
