Description
The Constantia Chapter will host an Open House celebrating the history of its namesake, John Constant, who constructed a small farmhouse on a bluff overlooking the Nansemond River circa 1720.

Through extensive research and documentation, Constantia Daughters have traced the home’s journey from its original foundation—now located in Cedar Hill Cemetery—to its present location in downtown Suffolk. The Constant family played a significant role in the area’s early development, establishing a merchant enterprise that helped shape what would become the Town of Suffolk. The nearby riverfront wharves later suffered extensive damage during the British Burning of Suffolk.

Guests are invited to join chapter members in retracing this rich history and discovering the story behind this remarkable “house.” Chapter members have collaborated to develop a detailed timeline, plan an educational and celebratory program, and welcome the public to this special event.

This event is free and open to the public.
