Description
The Nacogdoches Chapter, NSDAR, invites the public to visit its America 250 exhibit at the Charles Bright Visitor Center, featuring four historic displays that highlight the contributions of two Revolutionary War patriots with ties to Nacogdoches: William Sparks and Antonio Gil Y'Barbo.

A native of North Carolina, William Sparks served as a mounted rifleman in the Wilkes County Militia Regiment during the Revolutionary War. He later settled in Nacogdoches in March 1836 and became one of the founding members of what is now Old North Church Baptist Church.

Antonio Gil Y'Barbo, lieutenant governor for the Spanish government in Texas, supported the Patriot cause by aiding Spanish General Bernardo de Gálvez, an ally of the Continental Army in the fight against the British. Y'Barbo supplied cattle to help feed Gálvez and his troops during their campaigns along the Mississippi River and is also remembered for his instrumental role in establishing present-day Nacogdoches on the site of an earlier Caddo settlement.

The public is invited to experience this exhibit before it closes on August 1.
