DAR Headquarters to Serve as New Host Venue for Scripps National Spelling Bee

WASHINGTON, D.C. - DAR Headquarters will serve as the new host venue for the 2026 Scripps National Spelling Bee, taking place May 26–29, 2026. DAR Constitution Hall will serve as the auditorium hosting the nationally televised competitions, while DAR Memorial Continental Hall and the Administration Building will be used by the Scripps Bee Team for a variety of additional activities and administrative purposes in supporting this beloved week-long event. During Bee Week, DAR National Headquarters, including the DAR Museum and DAR Library, will be closed to the public and members as the building hosts invitation-only Bee Week activities and events.

The Scripps National Spelling Bee had previously been held at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland since 2011. In wanting to bring the Bee back into Washington, DC, the DAR Headquarters complex was chosen for its historic ambiance, the organization’s dedication to education, and for being surrounded by monuments, museums and places of learning that embody the spirit of the competition.

Throughout the week, DAR Constitution Hall will welcome 247 spellers and their families from across the country and around the world as they compete on the historic stage. Bee Week is much more than the nationally televised competition. Participants and their families will also enjoy educational workshops, special events, and excursions both at DAR National Headquarters and throughout Washington, D.C.

With the excitement and activity surrounding Bee Week, along with enhanced security and private event programming taking place throughout the entire building, DAR Headquarters will remain closed to the public and members during this period from May 26-29 and reopen on Saturday, May 30.

This exciting opportunity shines a national spotlight on DAR Constitution Hall as one of Washington, D.C.’s most historic and iconic venues. DAR is honored to host this inspiring educational tradition that celebrates academic excellence, achievement, and opportunity for students from around the world.

All Bee Week activities are private and invitation only, but look for DAR Constitution Hall on your local television stations: click here to see where to watch.
