Description
The Fort Bend DAR Chapter, the Alexander Hodge DAR Chapter and the Alexander Hodge Chapter, SAR will dedicate two flag poles and flags at the Pleasant Green Cemetery in Richmond, TX in honor of America 250! This is an historic cemetery where freed slaves were buried. The slaves had been brought to the area after the Emancipation Proclamation reached Galveston, TX. The graves of the former slaves are marked, however their identities are unknown. Originally, Pleasant Green Baptist church was adjacent to the cemetery but relocated when the area was developed into a subdivision. The church continues to care for the cemetery grounds.
