Description
The Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock, PA will host the Tunkhannock Chapter, NSDAR's presentation of "July 4, 1776 - Breaking News: Independence is Declared" on Founder's Day. When Continental Congress commissioned copies of the Declaration of Independence to be printed and distributed throughout the colonies, news could only travel at the pace of the fastest horse, often taking weeks to reach other colonies by treacherous postal roads. We will introduce the wives of the 24th Connecticut Militia Regiment of the Wyoming Valley and learn of how they heard the news. Also visit the DAR America 250! display in the Dietrich Theater Gallery from June 1 to July 31.
