There are so many wonderful stories from all over the country illustrating how every member, every chapter and every state is making this Guardian Trust Campaign a success. All are truly transforming philanthropy while safeguarding our important complex of buildings located in our nation’s capital.

States Are Leading the Way

With the 2015 kick-off of the campaign, the New York State Organization committed an early $15,000 in seed money toward the Guardian Trust Campaign. Their support has contributed to the growth of this much needed endowment, while also shedding light on the immediate restorative needs of Constitution Hall.

“Our remarkable complex of buildings deserves our wholehearted support,” said Wilhelmena Kelly, State Chair of the New York State Organization Guardian Trust Campaign, “and the flexibility with which each donor may choose the scope and timing of that support is helping our Society to achieve important state and national goals.”

New York State Organization is encouraged by the generous gifts already contributed by its members as state chapters plan special fundraising events, and individual Daughters work to contribute to the trust fund with gifts before the formal campaign concludes in June.

Another Challenge Gift Inspires Washington Daughters

Great things can start with just a single person and a single idea! This year started with a bang for the Guardian Trust Campaign. Inspired by the Year-End campaign matching challenge, long-time member Joan Peters, Whidbey Island Chapter, Langley, Wash., became interested in making her own Challenge Gift in her home state of Washington. Her idea became the Drop in the Bucket campaign, which was announced at the State Board of Management meeting. She hopes her gift to the Immediate Restoration needs at Constitution Hall will inspire and motivate others, and that this activity will create a fun opportunity to bring the state together to shine on the national platform.

After that one generous act, Liz Jones, Vice President General, Vice Chair, National Development Committee and Campaign Coach for many of the Northwest Division states, coordinated with Washington State Regent Carol Jean Gaffney almost immediately. News of the challenge spread so quickly that the Greater Seattle Regent’s Council, made the first gift of $2,000 to the match! Mrs. Jones began working diligently with the rest of the states in the Northwest Division to inspire statewide matches of their own and a Division-wide Guardian Trust Campaign effort to assist in boosting the states’ member participation scores. Washington State currently ranks No. 9 in the nation based on percentage of members participating!

This type of creative and out-of-the-box thinking is truly driving the success of the Guardian Trust Campaign’s efforts in many states across the country. Committed donors and leaders like Mrs. Peters and many Washington State Daughters are joining together and making a huge difference in NS DAR for generations to come.

“Our Drop in the Bucket idea has taken on a life of its own. I came up with the idea because my little $5,000 matching gift really is a drop in the bucket when the overall goal is $25 million. However, contributing toward a $5,000 match or sponsoring another bucket of matching funds gives the ‘little guys’ the opportunity to make a difference and keep the organization flowing along without interruption.”
– Joan Peters, Whidbey Island Chapter

States Get the Credit!

Remember that state societies get credit for the total amount of money raised from state membership no matter how it is raised. So whether donations come in through state conferences, district or division meetings, chapter or state commitments or are made directly to NSDAR, you get credit!

Congratulations to the Top 10 States

NSDAR has developed two great ways for states to be recognized for all of their hard work on the campaign: Dollars Raised per Member and Percentage of Members Participating. As you can see there is room for states of all sizes to participate and win special recognition throughout the campaign and at Continental Congress.
