DAR Museum Podcast Programs
Welcome to the DAR Museum's Podcast Programs page! This is a new service developed as an extension to the educational programs offered at the Museum. Podcasts provide visitors the opportunity to download tours and lectures prior to visiting the museum, or to learn about the collection from home.
Understanding Podcasts
A podcast is a series of multimedia files available for download over the Internet. Once you download a podcast, you can listen to it on your computer or any personal mp3 device (you do not need an iPod to play a podcast). All podcasts that the DAR Museum offers are in mp3 file format.
The DAR Museum does not require a subscription for podcasts. Each one is designed to stand alone. The Period Room Tour Podcast, which consists of 30 tracks, has been compressed into a zip file for ease in downloading. Once you unzip the files to your computer, you can either play them on your computer or upload them to your mp3 device.
How to Use the Period Room Tour Podcast
Download the Podcast from Home
If you plan to visit the DAR Museum, we recommend that you download the Period Room Tour Podcast and add it to your audio player before your visit. Once you arrive at the museum, stop into the gift shop to acquire a floor map. You can then begin your tour.
Rent an Audio Player at the Museum
If you are unable to download the Podcast before your visit or do not own an mp3 device, we have audio players with the tour available to rent in the gift shop.
If you wish to rent the audio player, they are available from the Museum Gift Shop for a nominal fee. Players are available for rent Monday – Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
