12:00PM (EDT)
Like many museums, we hear all manner of strange stories about the past that just aren’t true. This lecture will dive into the psychology behind these myths, drawing on research surrounding urban legends and cognitive biases. It is helpful for museum staff and volunteers to understand not just the truth of these stories but why they are so tenacious. From there, we can address effective strategies to spread the truth… using that same psychology to ensure the real stories “stick.” That’s right! We’re using human cognitive biases in our favor instead of fighting against them. Come learn the secrets for yourself!
Speaker: Katie Cannon, Curator of Education
Event is free! Register for your “seat” through Zoom or watch it streaming live on YouTube
