Janet Montgomery Chapter, NSDAR is located in Rockville, Maryland. We were officially confirmed on April 9, 1909. In as much as Montgomery County, Maryland is named for General Richard Montgomery, it seemed quite fitting the chapter be named for his wife, Janet Livingston Montgomery, daughter of Robert Livingston of New York. General Montgomery was killed during the Battle of Quebec during the American Revolution. Janet Montgomery later built an estate Montgomery Place at Annandale-On-Hudson in Dutchess Cou

Feb. 1, 2009, San Jacinto Chapter, NSDAR held a grave-marking ceremony honoring Rev. War ancestor/patriot Henry Bailey Greenwood (1756-1835), buried Stoneham Cemetery, Grimes Co., TX. Then, Texas State Regent, Lynn Forney Young was in attendance as well as our current Texas State Regent, Pamela Rouse Wright and local dignitaries. The local SAR chapter participated as well as the Robert Raines Chapter, NSDAR.

NH's 6th State Regent, Annie Bartlett Shepard (1907-1909) was the grandmother of America's first astronaut Alan Bartlett Shepard. RADM Shepard commanded the Apollo 14 mission, piloting the lander to the most accurate landing of the Apollo missions. The historic space traveler was no doubt inspired by Mrs. Shepard who, as founder of the Molly Reid Chapter, was an accomplished woman in her own right. Grace Lyon Seasholes was a founding member of Jane Douglas Chapter in 1895. She was the daughter of Sabrina Lyon who was John D. Rockefeller's 4th grade teacher. Sabrina's husband died when the children were young and Rockefeller promised to pay for her children's education. Grace attended Denison University in Ohio and finished her degree in 1889. The NSDAR Wilmington Ladies Tea Walk Chapter was organized with 13 members on 08 Dec 2007 aboard the Battleship North Carolina in Wilmington, NC. We have since grown to 32 members with a third of those being juniors. Our chapter meets on the first Thursday evening of the month for a meal before our official meeting, so that our working women can attend. We continue to use the Battleship for our special meetings and are allowed to fly our Revolutionary era flag from the masthead of the ship whenever we have

I recently discovered this grave in a lovely cemetery around the corner from my house in Dallas, TX. Mrs. Welch was the founder of the Samuel McDowell Society, Children of the American Revolution, that was formed at a Jane Douglas Chapter meeting in January 1896 (the first C.A.R. Society in Texas). On another side of this stone, sadly, is a memorial to Mrs. Welch's only child who died at the age of three. The Shawnee Fort Chapter located in Plymouth, held a graveside service to honor Katharine Searle McCartney on the Centennial of her death. Katharine McCartney was a charter member of the National Society and organized the first chapter in Pennsylvania in Wilkes-Barre in April 1891. She served as Chapter Regent for 23 consecutive years. On 4 June 1983, the Green Mountain Boys Chapter was organized in San Antonio TX. Over the years, the members have faithfully served DAR and the community through a variety of projects. Here is a photograph, which originally was published in the San Antonio Recorder on 12/12/1985, showing members planting crepe myrtle trees at a local library.

Back in June 2012, I traveled to the town where my mother was born - Eldorado, Arkansas. I saw this plaque on a building, and of course had to take a picture. Thought it was appropriate for posting on this page.

Founded in 1891, the Atlanta Chapter NSDAR has the distinction of being the second oldest chapter. One of our prized possessions is a gavel bequeathed to the Chapter by one of our own Daughters, Mrs. E. P. Wolff. The gavel was made in 1893 from a tree near the grave of her Great-Uncle Patrick Henry.

In 1954, the Melzingah Chapter in Dutchess County, NY, rescued the historic home of Madam Catheryna Rombout Brett -- after it was slated to be demolished to make way for a supermarket! In the sixty years since, chapter members have operated the c. 1709 homestead as a house museum, welcoming as many as 1,000 visitors annually. Katherine Wolcott Verplanck, one of New York's early State Regents, who was descended from Governor Wolcott of Connecticut. In addition to founding the Melzingah Chapter of the DAR, she was a visionary who served on the local school board, the Red Cross and many other organizations.

THE FIELDING LEWIS CHAPTER, NSDAR The Fielding Lewis Chapter of Marietta, Georgia celebrated it's 110th anniversary in 2014! This is one of the oldest and the largest Chapter in Georgia with over 270 members! We look forward to an exciting year in 2015, and celebrate the 125th anniversary of The Daughters of the American Revolution!

The Trumbull-Porter Chapter, formed by a merge of the Sarah Whitman Trumbull Chapter of Watertown and the Melicent Porter Chapter of Waterbury has cared for the Old Burying Ground in Watertown since 1904, more than 100 years. At least 51 veterans of the Revolutionary War are buried there. Some of them served in both the Rev and the French and Indian War while others served in the Revolution and War of 1812. Here are photos of the front gates with plaques listing some of the soldiers of 1776.

California Daughters recognized 100 years of aviation and recognized San Diego as the birthplace of naval aviation by placing this marker in Centennial Park in Coronado in 2011. Like all markers, it says that this place matters and will educate generations to come!

The Trumbull-Porter erected this new information kiosk in the Old Burying Ground in Watertown, CT in 2005. It holds a large plot map that gives the numbers of all of the gravestones and there are printed indexes of corresponding names on the side so that specific gravestones can be more easily found. The klosk was given in memory of member Virginia Copeland White who was very instrumental in preserving this cemetery, the first one in Watertown.

The historic first cemetery in Sarasota County Florida is that of Sarasota's first settlers William and Mary Whitaker and their descendants. The first burial took place in 1879. The Sara De Soto chapter was deeded the cemetery in 1939 by the family which it continues to maintain and assist with Whitaker family funerals. Photo of cemetery and chapter house.

The Thankful Hubbard Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1899, one of the first five chapters in Texas. The chapter was named for the great-grandmother of Florence Anderson Clark, the first State Regent of Texas and an organizing member of the chapter.

The Elizabeth Crockett Chapter in Granbury, Hood County, Texas, is named for Elizabeth Patton Crockett, wife of Alamo hero David Crockett and the daughter of Revolutionary War patriot Robert Patton. TBT from New Hampshire DAR.... On August 31, 1909, a boulder and bronze tablet to the memory of Matthew Thornton, signer of the Declaration of Independence, was unveiled on the lawn of his home in Derry, New Hampshire. Under the regency of Miss Sarah P. Webster, the boulder was placed on the lawn in front of the house in Derry Village, which is now privately owned. The first entry in this original book of minutes of the Thankful Hubbard Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution in Austin, Texas is January 16, 1899. The application for formation of the chapter was approved shortly thereafter on February 28th, 1899. This journal is one of our most treasured artifacts.

New Hampshire DAR is proud to have had twelve Vice Presidents General serving the National Society. The first was Sarah White Cheney, who served from 1899-1900. Mrs. Cheney was the wife of former Governor and US Senator Person Colby Cheney of Manchester. Mr. Cheney later served as US Minister to Switzerland. Mrs. Cheney's family came to America in 1636. More than 600 people climbed to the top of Mount Beacon in Dutchess County, NY, in 2000 for the centennial rededication of Melzingah Chapter's 1900 monument to the Revolutionary War Patriots who had manned signal fires there during the war. It's a great example of DAR's important work to preserve the memory and spirit of the men and women who won America's independence. On the occasion of our nation's Bicentennial celebration in 1976, Connecticut Daughters placed a memorial plaque at the gravesite of Anne Belle Rogers Minor, member and Chapter Regent of Lucretia Shaw Chapter, New London, CT, and President General of NSDAR, 1920-1923.

Old Walton Road Chapter, Cookeville, TN. Clara Cox Epperson was a celebrated author, poet, and teacher, once named Poet Laureate of Tennessee, and was active in local civic and literary organizations. In 1920 she was Book Chairman for the Book Lovers Club, which established the Putnam County Library in 1923. The library was originally named the Clara Cox Epperson Library in her honor.

Knitting Instructors, Mary Isham Keith Chapter, D.A.R., Fort Worth, Texas - May 1918 Courtesy of the New York Public Library www.nypd.org During World War I, Mary Isham Keith Chapter members supported the war effort by serving as knitting instructors for the Red Cross. The chapter contributed 470 knitted garments to American soldiers (more than any other chapter in the state).

One of our most treasured archives. This DAR Insignia book written in 1902 by Florence Anderson Clark, the first Texas State Regent and founding member of the Thankful Hubbard Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution National Headquarters in Austin, Texas. New Hampshire DAR Cathedral of the Pines Service The first Cathedral of the Pines DAR service was held on August 29, 1948 in conjunction with the SAR. The Cathedral of the Pines is an international shrine, dedicated to the Glory of God and the loving memory of Sanderson "Sandy" Sloane, who gave his life for his country in WWII, by his parents, Douglas and Sibyl (Sanderson) Sloan. May 5, 1929: The since-disbanded Washington Heights Chapter dedicates a marker on a defensive redoubt used during the crushing Battle of Fort Washington. The marker still reminds those in this busy part of Manhattan of the Revolutionary War history that occurred here on November 16, 1777, thanks to these devoted Daughters. Among the Americans taken prisoner that day was Margaret Corbin, who would later become the first female pensioner of the Army after rising to man her husband's cannon after he was killed

On April 7, 1990 the Point Vicente Chapter placed a historical marker commemorating an ancient Nisenan Indian village and burial ground at La Casa de los Gobernadores at 2300 California Avenue in Carmichael, California in Sacramento County. The 12” x 24” bronze marker was placed on a 3500 pound rock at the entrance of the private property where it is accessible to the public. The rock was set off by two similar but smaller rocks with Indian markings and by bedding plants in bloom.

Marie Francis Woolcott joined the NSDAR in 1933, and served as a page at Continental Congress in Washington D C on two separate occasions, once as the State Regent’s personal page. She was honored for 65 years of service to the organization 1998 and died in 2001 as an original member of the Jonas Babcock Chapter. Marie Francis was the War Finance Director for the State of Washington for WWII and raised thousands and thousands of dollars for the cause. She is shown here at a war bond rally in Seattle with El

In 1909, members of the Catherine Schuyler chapter placed this plaque on a boulder marking the site of the Caneadea Council House (Iroquois nation), and in particular, the place where Revolutionary War patriot Major Moses VanCampen ran the "gauntlet".

In 1928, queens of the Tournament of Roses were not school girls but were women of distinction in the community. Harriet Sterling was chosen to represent America in the 1928 parade where the theme was “States and Nations in Flowers.” She wore a many-pronged crown as “America Enthroned.” Harriet Sterling, a high school teacher was at the time Regent of the Martin Severance Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Sterling later was a member of the Board of Education.

The Baron Steuben Chapter of Bath, NY (now merged with the Corning chapter in 1994) dedicated a DAR marker in 1929 at Pulteney Park, Bath, NY. Chapter members along with the community came out for the dedication and celebration. The Corning-Baron Steuben Chapter is now taking care of the site with landscaping.

Flag Day 2012, 50 years later for Owasco Chapter DAR of Auburn NY. Two of Mabel Stoker's granddaughters are included in this photo, continuing the tradition! See the post below this for a 50 year time difference.

Owasco Chapter of Auburn NY celebrating Flag Day 1962. Flora Daniells (front far left) and her intrepid partner Mabel Crosby (not pictured) compiled a 10 volume listing of Cayuga County cemeteries in the 1960's; their records are of tremendous help to all of us!
