DAR Schools Bus Tour to Allow Members to See Firsthand Impact on Education

As one of the founding objectives of the Daughters of the American Revolution, education has always been at the core of the many initiatives of the 123-year old women’s service organization. One of the most visible aspects of DAR’s educational efforts is the long history of supporting schools. The theme of the DAR School Committee is “Be wise, focus on the future with education,” symbolized by the wise owl. Whoo gives a hoot about education? DAR gives a hoot!

Today, DAR is kicking off the Give a Hoot DAR Schools Bus Tour interactive campaign!

In two weeks, DAR leadership will set out on a week-long multi-city bus tour of the DAR supported schools and will meet face-to-face with many of the students touched by the Friends of DAR Schools Fund. Additionally, thanks to a generous DAR member, every donation made to the fund during this campaign will be matched dollar for dollar up to $10,000!

The bus tour departs from Washington, D.C., on October 5 and runs through October 13. Stops along the tour include Hindman Settlement School (Hindman, Ky.), Kate Duncan Smith DAR School (Grant, Ala.), Berry College (Mount Berry, Ga.), Tamassee DAR School (Tamassee, S.C.) and Crossnore School (Crossnore, N.C.).

While each of the DAR supported schools have a different focus and method for educating its students, all of the schools are given financial assistance through DAR member contributions, such as scholarships, volunteer hours and material donations. More than $1 million is given annually by DAR to support these schools.

Over the next month we will be highlighting the impact DAR and its supported schools have had in children’s lives through a series of fun informational quizzes and DAR Schools tour coverage on Facebook.

Throughout the trip, members will be sharing their experiences on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. We invite you to come along for the ride virtually by visiting our Give a Hoot website on Facebook where you will be able to see what people are saying about the schools tour and where you can take quizzes to see how much you know about DAR’s impact on education.

Make sure to “like” DAR on Facebook and subscribe to the Today’s DAR Blog in order to stay up to date on the schools tour and all of the latest DAR news.

Follow along with the Give a Hoot DAR Schools Bus Tour.
