Special Photo Exhibit and Reception at DAR Constitution Hall

September 20th Celebration of Renovations to the Historic Hall, Showcasing Photos by Linda Bruckheimer

(WASHINGTON, DC) In celebration of the recently renovated DAR Constitution Hall lobby, the Daughters of the American Revolution is hosting a special reception and photography exhibit on the evening of September 20, 2016 at the historic D.C. concert hall. Linda Bruckheimer, a photographer and preservationist as well as a DAR member, will be showcasing her work in the exhibit, “Greetings from Roadside America: Wish you were here!” The reception will feature refreshments and hors d’oeuvres and proceeds from tickets sales for the event will benefit phase two of the DAR Constitution Hall restoration focusing on important stage renovation.

The inspiration for the collection of photos on display in the exhibit come from a childhood road trip Mrs. Bruckheimer took with her family from Kentucky to Hollywood. “As I watched the world go by from the back seat of that car, I was comforted by the roadside images of freight trains, Indian trading posts and the blinking neon signs of a lonely café,” says Bruckheimer. “These photos reflect both the ghosts of the past and the jarring images of the present.”

In recent exhibitions, most notably at the Kentucky Governor’s Mansion, Mrs. Bruckheimer’s work displayed a penchant for humor and irony, and shed a transformative light on commonplace juxtapositions and landscapes. Her work demonstrates her belief that there is no location as textured or full of surprises as ordinary life in America.

Mrs. Bruckheimer’s love of history and architecture fostered her devotion to preservation and she has served on the board of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the Los Angeles Conservancy. During the exhibit reception, DAR will be presenting Mrs. Bruckheimer with the DAR Historic Preservation Medal for her devoted service to preservation efforts, most notably the restoration and revitalization of the community of Bloomfield, Ky. The DAR Historic Preservation Medal recognizes individuals who have done extraordinary work over a long period of time in establishing a historic district, preserving a local landmark, restoring or preserving objects of historical cultural significance and other significant volunteer projects as they pertain to historic preservation at the regional, state and/or national level.

Mrs. Bruckheimer is a DAR member of the Cox's Station Chapter in Kentucky and she currently divides her time between her historic farm in Nelson County, Kentucky and Los Angeles, where she lives with her husband, film and television producer, Jerry Bruckheimer.

Mrs. Bruckheimer’s passion for historic preservation and her photography work highlighting the history and architecture of small towns throughout America led to a natural connection with the celebration of the first public reveal of the recent historically restored DAR Constitution Hall. After extensive renovation to the 87 year old National Historic Landmark, the DAR is proud to showcase the beautifully revived historic character of the lobby, which is also benefiting from the behind-the-scenes mechanical systems updated in the lobby ceiling. These renovations were made to enhance the aesthetic, comfort and safety of the building for the hundreds of thousands of people that attend Constitution Hall events each year.

Phase two of the DAR Constitution Hall renovation is planned in the upcoming year which will focus on revitalizing the stage floor as well as well as restoring the adjacent pillars and the original, hand painted canvas mural located in the lunette above the stage. In addition to the conservation of the visual aspects of the historic stage, safety systems and other mechanical enhancements in the ceiling above the stage are planned to improve the safety and operations of the increasingly more complex productions that take place in Constitution Hall each year.

Proceeds from the ticket sales for the exhibit and reception will benefit this next phase of the Constitution Hall renovation. Additionally, guests at the reception will enjoy refreshments and hors d’oeuvres with a “roadside” flare. A special cocktail, generously created and donated by Maker’s Mark, will also be available in honor of Mrs. Bruckheimer’s Kentucky heritage.

“Greetings from Roadside America: Wish you were here!” will be held Tuesday, September 20 from 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, DC. Guests are asked to enter at the 18th Street entrance of Constitution Hall (between C and D Streets NW). Guests may utilize the complimentary valet parking located on 18th Street the night of the event.

Tickets are available at https://roadside-america.eventbrite.com for $125 per person.
