Description
Maryland DAR State Regent Elizabeth “Liz” Deering chose "Our Legacy of Liberty" for her State Regent's Project. The project calls for the planting of 13 documented scions of an original Liberty Tree that once stood at St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland, by groups of Maryland chapters at locations throughout the state. In pre-revolutionary America, colonists gathered beneath Liberty Trees to discuss grievances against British rule and plan resistance activities. The 13 trees being planted as part of this project will not only reflect the 13 original colonies, but symbolize our local American Revolutionary heritage.

The Samuel Chase, General Levin Winder and Nanticoke Chapters, NSDAR, have joined together to plant and dedicate one of the seedlings on Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore in Salisbury University’s Glenda Chatham Clarke Arboretum. The event will celebrate America's Semiquincentennial by honoring the birth of our nation and recognizing the contributions of all who fought for American independence.

The selected site in the arboretum gives the seedling the best chance of surviving to help America celebrate its 300th birthday in 50 years and faces a central meeting place on campus making it a prominent symbol reminiscent of the original Liberty Tree!

Event is free and the public is invited.
