DAR's America 250 Gift to the Nation

A Transformative Gift for a Historic Anniversary

In celebration of the 250th anniversary of our nation, the DAR is focused on commemorating this important milestone in local communities and nationally. Given the DAR National Headquarters' prime location in the nation's capital, the DAR sought to give a Gift to the Nation with an impact that would be felt in Washington D.C., and by visitors from around the country!

For over 100 years, the cherry trees on the National Mall have been a beloved cultural symbol and historic destination that draws in national and international visitors to our nation’s capital. In keeping with the strong tradition of women stepping in to preserve and protect the cherry trees, the DAR is donating a transformative gift of $2 million to become the Legacy Leader of the Trust for the National Mall's Cherry Tree Endowment.

DAR’s gift will provide critical funds to the National Park Service tree maintenance team for tree pruning and soil remediation, as well as civic education opportunities and volunteer programming hosted by the Trust, all to ensure this living legacy of American history serves as a source of patriotic pride for generations to come!

The Trust for the National Mall is a nonprofit organization that partners with the National Park Service to bring funding to maintain and preserve the National Mall.

The DAR and the Trust for the National Mall have been collaborators for years, including the DAR supporting the restoration of the 56 Signers of the Declaration of Independence Memorial in 2022.

HOST SPONSOR: The National Cherry Blossom Festival

With 2026 being such a special year, the DAR is deepening its connection to the Cherry Blossoms by being a Host Sponsor of the National Cherry Blossom Festival! DAR's participation in the Festival will help ensure that every visitor who marvels at the blossoms recognizes DAR’s role in preserving this living piece of American history for generations to come.

The National Cherry Blossom Festival is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting the beauty of nature and international friendship through year-round programs, events, and educational initiatives that enhance our environment, showcase arts and culture, and build community spirit.

The opening ceremony of the Festival will be hosted at DAR Constitution Hall, and the DAR will have a special float in the nationally syndicated Festival Parade!
