DAR Headquarters, including the DAR Museum and DAR Library, will be closed to the public on Saturday, June 13 
due to street closures and access restrictions connected with an area event. Additionally, street traffic and parking 
in the area will be significantly restricted in the days leading up to and following the weekend events.

Description
The Founders Crossing Chapter, NSDAR, of Homer Glen, Illinois, will host a public reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 8, 2026, as part of the America 250! celebration commemorating the 250th anniversary of the first public reading of the Declaration in 1776. The event will begin at 4:45 p.m. at Lincoln Landing Public Museum and Park in Lockport, Illinois, with the reading to begin promptly at 5:00 p.m.

Chapter members and local officials will participate as readers, joining communities across the nation in honoring this historic milestone through the The Hawai‘i America250 Commission initiative. During the event, elementary-age children will receive copies of "The U.S.A. Turns 250: Hooray for the U.S.A!" to help inspire an appreciation for the foundations of freedom and the continuing story of our nation. This event is free.
