Description
There will be a public reading of the Declaration of Independence. This event is a partnership between the Stephen A. Douglas Chapter, NSDAR; the Tuscola Tourism Council, and the Douglas County Museum to celebrate America 250! in our county.

The Tuscola High School Honors Choir will sing the National Anthem. Retired Circuit Judge Mike Carroll will serve as MC of the event and will provide a background about the history of the Declaration and the event. We will have a local historian who will portray John Nixon who first read the Declaration publicly to read the Declaration. The entire crowd will read the American Creed simultaneously.

Col. Larry Icenogle (ret), a highly decorated member of Buglers Across America, along with the Stanton Burgett American Legion Post #201, will provide a ceremony honoring the deceased Patriots. An America 250! Commendation Medal will be presented to Col. Icenogle who has provided taps for over 5,000 fallen soldiers/events.

Refreshments on the lawn will be served. All sponsoring organizations will have free materials about each organization and other free tokens for those in attendance.
