Description
On July 4, 2026, the Town of Saugus, Massachusetts, will celebrate America's 250th anniversary with an old-fashioned patriotic gathering at the historic Saugus Iron Works, the site of the nation's first iron works. Held from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m., this free, family-friendly event is open to the public and sponsored in part by the Parson Roby Chapter, NSDAR, which is coordinating many of the day's activities.

Guests will hear from George Washington as he reflects on his Revolutionary War experiences, while the chapter's namesake, Parson Joseph Roby—who served as Saugus pastor for 50 years and led 62 men to Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775—will portray the reading of the Declaration of Independence. Members of the C.A.R. will honor those patriots by reading the names of the 62 men who answered the call to service.

The celebration will recreate the spirit of 1776 with period games, food, and colonial attire, along with photo opportunities featuring George and Martha Washington cutouts and period costumes. As part of the nationwide "Ring Bells at Noon on July 4" initiative, the chapter will provide bells for attendees to join in the commemorative ringing. Winners of the chapter's K–5 "What Freedom Means" writing and drawing contest will also be announced and recognized with prizes. Throughout the event, the Parson Roby Chapter will host a DAR information table to share the Society's mission of historic preservation, education, and patriotism. This event is free and open to the public.
