Description
We will be reenacting the historical event that the Wilmington Ladies Tea Walk DAR Chapter is named for. We know from Janet Shaw's book, A Journal Of A Lady Of Quality, that the women of the Wilmington came together to burn their tea in protest. Janet Shaw reported in her journals, as she traveled the Cape Fear region, and stayed for a while in Wilmington that while in Wilmington she saw women walking to the river front and wrote "The ladies have burnt their tea in solemn procession". We will reenact this event beginning at the Historic Burgwin-Wright House where we will have tea & cookies plus several notable speakers, and then the members of the Wilmington Ladies Tea Walk Chapter dressed in their period attire will process down market street to the river front where we will empty our tea caddy's into a burn barrel as they did in 1775.
