Historical Significance:

This is the final resting place of Brigadier General Francis Marion who kept the American Revolution alive from 1780 to late 1781 while General Washington's Army regathered its strength and the French Navy joined the American efforts for Independence. The South Carolina Daughters of the American Revolution have 4 bronze plaques placed in 1931 at the entrance of the Belle Isle Plantation and at the Cemetery Gate. Acknowledgements: General Marion's Brigade conducts the Francis Marion Memorial Service annually on February 27th at 11 AM. The Washington Light Infantry serves as Color Guard. Wreaths are presented for Gen. Marion and his wife. Other DAR chapters in the area attend along with the public.
