Historical Significance
The DAR Santa Fe Trail Marker stands in the Santa Fe Trail on a county road in far west Cimarron County near the New Mexico state line. A fence has been built to help protect some of the remaining wagon tracks. In the background of the stone DAR marker are the original wagon tracks. Many tracks side by side were seen in previous years before weathering took place. During the peak years of 1822-1880 several wagons traveled abreast of each other over the trail to Santa Fe. There are actually two markers set in the Cimarron County in far western Oklahoma Panhandle are set on the Cimarron Cutoff from the Santa Fe Trail.

- There was a rededication ceremony on Oct. 27, 2019, by the Woodward Chapter, NSDAR.
