Fort Antes
Antes Fort, PA 17740

Historical Significance:

This boulder marks the spot for Antes Fort which was erected by Lt. Col. John Henry Antes in the summer of 1777 as a place of sanctuary against the Indian raids during that time period. The Fort was attacked and destroyed by Indians and Tories in July 1778 and was abandoned by the settlers during the Big Runnaway as it was called when most white settlers abandoned this valley.
