In the collection of the DAR are a group of unique little bags made of lightweight cotton and decorated with lovely little inked designs.  Some have the addition of prose and perhaps the name of the owner or giver.  These little bags were something a young girl who was honing her sewing skills could make.  Easy to assemble, fun to decorate and far less tedious then their embroidered counterparts they might have been given as friendship tokens in the early 19th century.  Join Angela Burnley as we explore and make our own little bags based on the ones in the collection. Bring your fabric scissors and paper scissors, pins, needles and white and cream cotton thread.  The remainder of the materials will be provided. 

About the presenter: Angela Burnley is the owner of Burnley and Trowbridge Company, a historic business specializing in textiles and related items of the 17th, 18th and early 19th century.  She is the founder and sponsor of the "Historic Fashion Workshop Series", a series of hands-on workshops teaching the "making techniques" of the Mantua Maker, Milliner and Tailor, now in its 15th year.   She is also an independent researcher concentrating in historic textile and costume and has presented at museums and professional symposium throughout the United States including the DAR Museum and Colonial Williamsburg.
