HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE:

The DAR Lot, overlooking the winding Kentucky River and the Kentucky State Capitol, was established July 4, 1916. It is located in Section N within the historic confines of the Frankfort Cemetery which was established in 1844 as the second incorporated cemetery in America. Beginning with the reinterment of three Patriots in 1916, the hallowed ground now honors 14 verified Revolutionary War patriots that have been reinterred in the cemetery or have memorial stones in place, each dedicated by different Kentucky DAR chapters. Under the auspices of the Withers Administration, 2007-2010, The DAR Lot underwent a much needed restoration. Headstones and markers were repaired, the original 1928 granite monument with bronze tablet was restored to its original appearance, a new flagpole with a solar light installed, and a granite memory bench dedicated. The Wells Administration, 2010-2013, continued the restoration, adding the 14th patriot to the DAR Lot. A detailed history of the lot and a biography of the patriots was published in 2013 and updated in 2018. A copy was placed in the John Fox Genealogical Library at Duncan Tavern, Kentucky State DAR State Headquarters.
