Location:
516 East Grand Ave Ponca City, OK 74601
In front of City Hall
Historical Significance:
First dedicated in 1925 following a fundraising effort by the Ponca City Chapter, NSDAR, the World War I Memorial honors Ponca City citizens who served in that war. The Memorial includes a fountain with multi-colored lights to light the fountain waters at night, and a bronze plaque on a granite pedestal with the names of the 293 Ponca City citizens who served in World War I. The plaque also designates overseas nurses and those who died in service. Due to the high attendance of State DAR officers at the dedication, the annual State meeting was held in Ponca City that year. The chapter held a rededication ceremony in 1982 (see below), and most recently on July 28, 2022, to celebrate the refurbishment of the bronze names plaque.
