The NSDAR Archives, located at DAR Headquarters in Washington, D.C., is seeking a 2024 summer intern.

The internship’s primary objective will be to inventory and rehouse the NSDAR’s Archives’ Objects Collection.  Besides rehousing the items, this assignment will require the intern to utilize our collections’ catalog software system, Proficio, to update locations and standardize descriptions when appropriate.  As time allows, the intern may also gain experience researching, answering DAR history reference questions, and contributing to DAR social media.

The DAR Objects Collection is made up of items such as DAR pins,  memorabilia, and DAR-issued collectables.

If you are seeking graduate school credit, please indicate so in your application.  A capstone or project reflection can be incorporated into the internship.

Requirements

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in a graduate library/archives program, and/or a program in American history, American studies, museum studies, or public history.
  • Preference will be given for completed graduate course work in archival, library or information management.
  • Recent graduates may also apply.  Individuals must have completed their graduate degrees no more than one year prior to the application deadline.
  • Current undergraduate students are not eligible to apply.

Time Commitment

This internship is expected to last for 10 weeks and be up to 20 hours per week.  We operate on a Monday through Friday work week, between the hours of 8:00 am – 4:00 pm.

We anticipate the internship taking place June through August, and we are willing to work with an applicant’s school schedule.  A fixed scheduled will be agreed upon prior to commencing.

Compensation

$19.00 per hour, subject to federal, state, and local taxes.
