The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), a non-profit membership organization with its National Headquarters located near the White House, is seeking an experienced accounting professional to join our team.

Our full time Senior Accountant will perform a full range of analytical accounting, with a focus on monthly closing, reconciliation, budget, taxes, and general processing.

We are looking for a professional who demonstrates a strong sense of ownership, has the ability to execute to keep projects moving to meet internal and external deadlines, and who is highly adaptable with strong problem-solving ability.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations to ensure that the general ledger is maintained in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain, reconcile, and record all activity related to DAR’s semi-annual release of net assets.
  • Maintain, reconcile, and record all transfers between various funds.
  • Prepares assigned schedules as it relates to DAR’s annual independent audit and annual budget.
  • Assists the Controller in the preparation of annual tax filings for the Federal government (IRS Form 990 and 990-T) and DC tax returns.
  • Acts as a backup as it relates to processing bi-weekly payroll and weekly check requests.
  • Prepares schedules for various departmental inventory counts.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting and a minimum of four years’ experience in an accounting department or in a public accounting firm. Familiarity with a non-profit environment is preferred.
  • CPA candidate or CPA preferred.
  • Must demonstrate advanced proficiency with one or more computerized accounting software packages.
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel and intermediate proficiency in Word.
  • High degree of tact and diplomacy and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Benefits:

  • Hiring annual salary range in the low $60,’s to mid $70’s , with the final determination based upon the candidate’s overall experience.
