Historical Significance
The house is the only remaining structure of the first county seat of Screven County, Georgia, know as Jacksonborough. The house was built in 1815 by Seaborn Goodall, a leader fo the community. Blessed by an itnerent Methodist preacher, Lorenzo Dow, for saving the preacher's life from the town "Rowdies." The preacher was in town to preach to the sinners, who tried to hurt him. Seaborn Goodall acted as a Good Samaritan and took him in and nursed his injuries. Lorenzo Dow escaped with his life and his final act was to curse the town as he left, except for the Seaborn Goodall home. Within 20 years all structures of Jacksonborough were gone, except for the house, by wind, flood, and fire. No footprint of Jacksonborough remained.
