Historical Significance:
The Hightower Trail is an old Indian path that passes through NE Rockdale, about 7 miles from Conyers. The trail divided the Cherokee & Creek Indian nations and meanders through several counties. It stretches from Athens, GA to Gadsen, AL, and served not only as a boundary but also as a wagon train route as it skirted treacherous river crossings & led to shallow fords where the rivers could be safely crossed.
