Historical Significance
Memorial Gardens is part of the San Juan County cemeteries that has over 43 Vietnam Veterans buried there; some of which are Navajo. The monument/marker is a recognition for all those who fought during that time. Navajos had long recognized this unique area which is at the confluence of the Animas, La Plata and San Juan Rivers, meaning three waters or between the waters. Named in 1879 by Milt Virden a farm town and removing the ‘W.'
It is a beautiful monument that has the names of those killed in the Vietnam War from the Four Corners. Around the original monument are bricks on a wall of those from the area who served and the branch of military service. Our 50th Anniversary Monument is directly West of the Wall Monument with a sitting/viewing area between the two.

Acknowledgement
The Memorial Gardens is a private cemetery, funded by patrons who utilize the cemetery. The DAR monument/marker was erected with funds donated by the Desert Gold Chapter, NSDAR, in Farmington, New Mexico, in the amount of $4500. The maintenance is done by both the City of Farmington, the local Desert Gold Chapter, NSDAR, members and volunteers.
